We invite you to a
Summer Solstice Celebration
Join us for a day of community, kai, activities, farm tours, music and much more at Kaicycle Urban Farm, Saturday the 17th of December from 10 am to 2 pm.
We will start the day with a crop swap at 10 am hosted by the amazing Newtown Crop Swap crew.
Crop Swap brings together backyard gardeners, home bakers and food foragers for swapping and sharing high-quality local food. Feel free to bring anything you have extra or abundance of, and take home from what others bring to the table.
At 12 pm everyone is invited to participate in a solstice ritual.
A summer solstice ritual is generally centred around a fire, representing the sun and in some cultures, the fire is believed to boost the sun's strength for the remainder of the growing season, leading to a healthy and full harvest. It also is a time to make wishes for the next part of the year and send them out through the burning fire.
Come 12.30 pm we will set up a large potluck share kai.
We invite those who wish to contribute by bringing a plate of food that represents celebration, it could be a traditional dish shared at gatherings, a recipe that has been passed down through your family, or simply your favourite kai to share with others. Seeds to Feeds will be providing some substantial items for the table so something small and easily shared is perfect.
After kai, at 1.30 pm there will be farm tours of Kaicycle Urban farm.
Other activities will take place throughout the day including, preparing seed packets to be shared around for Neighbours Aotearoa, live music and with time to connect with others. The whole whanau is invited and you are welcome to spend part of, or the whole day with us.
This event is brought to you by a collection of organisations that work hard throughout our rohe to celebrate, share, grow and champion our local kai, and our communities.
If you are interested in volunteering for the event please reach out to either Sarah Mills (sarah@seedstofeeds.nz) or Phoebe Balle (community@kaicycle.org.nz).
