It’s kōanga (spring) – planting time! Te Papa and Rongowhakaata welcome you to our first ever Seed Swap day.
Bring along seeds and swap them for new varieties to take home and plant at home. We will be joined by experienced and knowledgeable kaingaki māra (gardeners).
This event is all about sharing our mātauranga (knowledge) with each other – come along and learn about mahi māra, tuning into the māramataka, food sovereignty, hauora (wellbeing) and more!

HOW TO PREPARE YOUR SEEDS:
Please don’t bring any loose seeds (or other plant material) into the museum. If you’re bringing seeds to swap, please make sure they are packaged up in sealed bags or envelopes – ready for swapping! Label the packets with name of the plant. If you can, add the date they were harvested and where they are from.
No seeds to share? Come along anyway! We will have some extra seeds on hand to get you started.
