Kia ora tatou,
We would love you to join us for our very first Te Māramatanga Garden Hui!
You have been identified as someone connected to the Te Whanganui-a-Tara food security movement and we’d be thrilled to have you along on this journey with us. What garden? Where? Let me tell you!
Located between MacDonald Cresent and Ghuznee St is our very own inner-city garden. Te Māramatanga is a revitalisation of the Ministry of Transport-owned land above the Terrace Tunnel.
Just down the road from the māra is BGI. We run programmes, projects, and events which support and inspire our local rangatahi and their families. Our Community Kitchen is central to everything that we do. It's our chef, Michael Person, who's been spearheading the development of our regenerative orchard and urban kai garden, Te Māramatanga. These are spaces for growing nourishing kai and building skills, but also for fostering social unity.
We know our windy village is already home to an active network of kai communities working towards just and nurturing food futures. We envision the future of Te Māramatanga as an integrated part of our local food security landscape. That’s why we are reaching out to you, the existing network of individuals, organisations and communities working to make food security a reality in our city. Our hope is that together we can identify opportunities for collaboration and cross-pollinate
You might already be going “hell yeah” while reading this or maybe you just want to come along and see what the hype is all about. Either way, cool! Whether you’re keen to get involved in the future of this garden or fancy spending an afternoon in the company of our city’s kai community, we’d love to see you there!
Looking forward to meeting you all :)
